How to calculate IVA
To add IVA: amount × 1.16. To remove or break out IVA: amount ÷ 1.16.
The general IVA rate is 16% under article 1 of the VAT Law. An 8% border stimulus exists for qualifying taxpayers through 31 December 2026. Some goods and services are taxed at 0% or are exempt.
Formula
Gross = net × (1 + rate). Net = gross ÷ (1 + rate).
Worked example
A net price of MXN 1,000 needs the general IVA added.

Is the rate still 16% in 2026?
Yes. Article 1 of the VAT Law still sets the general rate at 16%.
When is 8% allowed?
Only as a border-region stimulus for registered taxpayers. It is not the default rate.
