How overtime is paid
In 2026, the first 9 extra hours in a week are paid double. Hours above that weekly cap are paid triple.
For 2026, extra time is still capped at 9 hours a week at double pay. Hours above that cap are paid at triple. The 1 May 2026 reform moves toward a 40-hour week only gradually through 2030.
Formula
Double pay = hourly rate × 2 × hours up to 9. Triple pay = hourly rate × 3 × remaining hours.
Worked example
A worker earning MXN 12,000 monthly works 12 extra hours in one week: 9 at double and 3 at triple.

Is Mexico already on a 40-hour week?
No. 2026 remains 48 ordinary hours. The reduction is scheduled from 2027 to 2030.
When is overtime triple?
When weekly extra hours exceed the 2026 cap of 9 hours.
